Substance use & dependency
Finding a way through with support & self-love
Using alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, or engaging in risky habits such as gambling is often a coping mechanism for other things that are going on in our life. While engaging in drug use or gambling can provide us with a temporary "quick-fix" for the distress we are experiencing, research shows that it can actually exacerbate our stress and emotional wellbeing, and negatively impact any mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety.

Opening up about our substance use or in fact any habit which we are finding is no longer serving us well, can feel very daunting. Many people worry they will be judged or lectured at, or that they will be told "the same old stuff". I want to provide a safe, confident space for you to discuss and explore your habit, without judgement or pressure. I will be guided by you on the pace you wish to speak about it, and the goals you wish to set for yourself.

I have been working with people on their dependency issues for several years, and have specialised evidence-based training in supporting people to quit their smoking and vaping. I have also undergone additional training around substance dependency & addiction, and gambling.
Research shows that having a strong & healthy support network is very important to being able to make changes to your habit. My counselling will align and respect any other supports you may be using. This may include advice from your GP, rehabilitation centre, group support meetings (e.g. AA), helplines, and any other supports that you finding helpful.
